Acupuncture meridian system was the greatest
discovery of traditional Chinese medicine
2500 years ago. It was definitely pointed
in 《Huang Di Nei Jing》, the ancient Chinese medical canon, that
meridian can “promote circulation of ‘Blood’
and ‘Qi’ and “balance ‘Ying’ and ‘Yang’”
“determine death or life; treat hundred
diseases”. In other words, meridian system is the general
controlling system of the body, specifically to cure and prevent
diseases, to promote health and longevity.
However, meridian system has not been discovered
so far by modern western medicine, or even
is denied of its existence, far from being
applied to treat and prevent diseases. This
is really a regrettable matter. The objective
of this work is to verify if the meridian
system does really exist and how does it
cure diseases and promote 100 years health
for everybody.
METHOD
1. Biophysical Verification of the 14 Meridian
Lines.
Through the endeavor for more than 20 years,
we have established 3 biophysical methods,
namely the high percussion sound (HPS), the
low impedance (LIP) and the latent propagated
sensation along channel (LPSC) to verify
scientifically all the 14 meridians with
high precision as what were described in
the ancient canon and bronze figure.(1027).
We have also discovered the morphological
basis of the 3 biophysical characteristics(1).

1.1.
Acoustic Method
Applying an automatic hammer with sharp rubber
tip to percuss the lines perpendicular to
the meridian, one can differentiate the high
percussion sound (HPS) produced and enlarged
through the electric transducer instrument,
just as the hammer reached at the point on
the meridian line. By linking up the serial HPS points determined
along the percussing lines at different levels of the meridian, a line of HPS which is coincident
with the ancient atlas can be recorded.
1.2. Electrical Impedance Method.
Applying an impulsive (30-40Hz) current,
probing with the testing electrode scanning
along the lines perpendicular to the tested
meridian, a series of low impedance points
(LIP) with high coincidence with the ancient
atlas can be recorded. As the HPS, the width
of the LIP is also within 1 mm.
1.3.. Method to Reveal the Hypersensitivity of
the Meridian (LPSC).
By turning a low frequency (10 Hz) impulse
current to the Jing acupoint of a meridian
and tapping with a delicate hammer along
the lines perpendicular to the tested meridian,
a series of hypersensitive points can be
differentiated by the subject . This is the
latent propagated sensation line along channel
(LPSC) which was first nominated by this
laboratory of the world.
All the 3 biophysical characteristics of
the meridian are surprisingly coincident
each other within 1 mm in width and also
with the ancient atlas.
2. The “3.1.2.” Meridian Exercise.
2.1. “3” refers to the massage of 3 acupoints
: Hegu, Neiguan and Zusanli ( Fig.1,2,3).i.e.,
through the massage of the three acupoints,
‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’ of the related three
meridians : Large Intestine, Pericardium
and Stomach are activated. This will enhance
the circulation of ‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’ around the whole body(2).
Fig.1
Fig.2
Fig.3
2.1.1. HEGU
Hegu belongs to the Meridian of Large intestine.
Massaging of this acupoint can treat some
disorders of the face and head, such as headache,
fever, sore throat, laryngitis, nasal sinusitis
etc. with good curative effect. Massage of
Hegu is also the best way to prevent apoplexy.
2.1.2. NEIGUAN
Neiguan belongs to the Pericardium Meridian
which begins from the internal chest ,running
to the thorax, then from the axilla up to
the shoulder along the middle line of the
volar side of the upper arm, via the palm
finally to the tip of the middle finger.
Massage of Neiguan can treat all the troubles
occurred along this meridian, especially
the cardiac and pulmonary diseases.
2.1.3 ZUSANLI
Zusanli is located on the small leg of the
Stomach Meridian Since the the Stomach Meridian travels throughout
the body from the head to the toes, not Only
digestive disorders but also other diseases
such as : fever, headache, toothache, mental
disorders, asthma, hypertension, cardiac
vascular diseases, arthritis, jaundice, palpitation,
urological diseases etc. can be treated by
acupuncture or massage at Zusanli. Zusanli
has been accepted as the point of longevity
in China and other South east-Asian countries
among the ages.
In summary, massage of the three acupoints, Hegu is in charge of
the arm and head, Neiguan is in charge of
the chest, heart and lung, Zusanli is in
charge of lower limbs, vescera and bowels,
so the diseases of the whole body can be
cured and prevented at all.
2.2 Abdominal Respiration
“1” refers to the exercise of one abdominal
respiration which is a simple
basic Qigong training without side effect.
It can be taken twice a day with
a duration of 5 minutes each time.
When practising, one can either lie or sit
dow n with the whole body relaxed. One should
think about nothing else but concentrating
your mind at the Dantian, 5 cm below the
novel, and keep the chest stable to eliminate
any chest respiration. During inhalation,
one has to inflate one’s abdomen by the
relaxation of abdominal muscles as much as
possible in 5 second or so and then to exhale.
During exhaling, the abdominal muscles should
be contracted slowly as much as possible
and the abdomen drawn in (Fig.4)
Fig.4
There are at least 9 meridians passing through
the lower abdomen. They Are doubly symmetrical
lines of the Kidney, Stomach, Spleen meridians
and
the central Ren meridian. During abdominal
breathing, following the
movement of the abdominal muscles, all the
9 meridians should be activated.
A lot of chronic diseases, such as hypertension,
insomnia, diabetes etc have
been proved to be effective.
2.3 Physical exercise of the two legs.
“2” refers to the physical exercise of
the two legs. According to our 15 years practice,
the most simple and effective exercise is
the squatting down and standing up (Fig.5). Physical exercise will involve the excitation
of. all the 20 meridians (including 8 extra
meridians) following the movements of the
muscles of the whole body. This is the reason of why the 312 meridian
exercise could prevent and cure diseases
and promote 100 years health for everybody(2).
Fig.5
RESULT
1. Since the publication of the “312” Meridian
Exercise in 1990, this method has been popularized
through booklets, newspapers, radio and TV
in the last 15 years. There are more than
several millions people at home and abroad
have practised this meridian exercise and
benefited from the effectiveness. For instance,
there were five delegations of eastern European
countries organized by the Hungary-China Friendship Association
and in Singapore, Malaysia, “312” has made
known in every household family. Indeed,
“312” is not only a method of healing,
but also a method of health promotion, especially
to promote 100 years health for the aged
people.
2. Since 1990, Beijing Yan Huang Meridian Research
Centre has organized 38 clinical workshops of “312” meridian exercise. More than eight
thousands people have participated in the
clinics. Among them, those who suffered from 35 kinds
of diseases such as hypertension, coronary
heart disease, asthma, diabetes and arthritis
have achieved obvious effectiveness after
four weeks’ practice with effective rate
of 95% and marked effective rate of 50% (stopping
taking medicine or removing symptom). Besides,
all trainees have become young, energetic
and vigorous. Everybody is confident to live
healthily for more than 100 years.
3. Among 145 participants of the 22nd clinical workshop, 86 subjects who are under
regular health care in municipal or regional
hospitals, making criteria of health (or
disease) easily available were chosen. The
health status of these participants was monitored
at the beginning of the workshop and followed
up at the end of 5 weeks. Results of the
86 subjects were as follows : 45 cases (55%)
showed marked improvement; 34 cases (40%)
showed some improvement and 5 cases (5%)
showed not effective. To follow up the “312”
meridian exercise for more than four months,
it was found that among 80 cases , 93% of them kept in some or marked
improvement. It means that the “312” meridian
exercise is not a temporary but a permanent
measure of health promotion.
4. To analyse the above 86 subjects according
to different diseases : Hypertension, 32
cases (37%) . Among which 17 cases (53%)
showed marked improvement and 15 cases (53%)
showed some improvement after “312” meridian
exercise for 5 weeks. Coronary heart diseases
: 14 cases (16%) in which 6 cases (43%) showed marked improvement,
7 cases (50%) showed some improvement, 1
case (7%) no effect.
DISCUSSION
1. Meridian science is a science different from
all the contemporary medical sciences. The
basis of the meridian science is the objective
existence of the meridian system which plays the dominant
role of the homeostasis of the body, especially
for healing and health promotion, while western
medicine knows nothing about the meridian.
2. The essence of the meridian theory is “to
promote circulation of
‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’” and “to balance ‘Ying’ and ‘Yang’”. For
thousands years, the practices of TCM, such
as acupuncture, massage, traditional Chinese
medical herbs, Qigong, and Kung-fu etc. have
proved the validity of the meridian theory.
Recent advances of the state meridian project
have shown that the meridian line is a complicated
pathway of ‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’. i. e., a
vivid channel of transferring material, energy
and information(3).
3. “312” Meridian Exercise is a development
of the traditional Chinese meridian theory
in integrating the 3 aspects of meridian
exercise, i. e., the direct massage of 3
meridians to activate the ‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’
of the 3 regions of the body; the indirect
massage of the 9 meridians of abdomen by
Qigong training to balance the Ying and Yang
of the viscera; and to excite the 20 meridians
of the whole body by physical exercise in
a dynamic state, leading to an extra augmentative
flow of ‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’ and a thourough
clearing off all the evils : bacteria, virus,
emboli etc. from the body. ‘312’ is simple
and easy to be handled by everybody, even
the aged and children. but the power is great.
People welcome ‘312’ deeply.
4. “312” Meridian Exercise will be a revolution of contemporary medicine. Patients in the present
hospital or clinics are treated passively
by doctors. They were treated by medication, injection, infusion, or operation
according to doctor’s order. However, people
of “312”are the master of their diseases.
They can treat themselves actively according to the methods and theory
of “312” radically and holistically without
the danger of any problem or side effect. Popularizing
the “312” meridian exercise will realize
the objective raised by WHO that “Everybody
should have health care in 2000” and to
attend 100 years health for everybody in
the 21st century.
CONCLUSION
The function of meridian system is to “promote
the circulation of ‘Blood’and ‘Qi’ ,
balance Ying and Yang”, and to “determine
life or death, treat hundreds diseases”
as described in the 《Canon of Medicine》. Meridian system is the general controlling
system of the body, especially for the healing
and health promotion. The occurrence of disease
is due to the loss of control of the meridians.
In practice, “312” meridian exercise is
the simple and effective way to reactivate
the meridian system for the rehabilitation
of various diseases and for longevity. Ii
is worthy to popularize such an easy and
effective method of healing and health promotion
to benefit the peoples all over the world.
